Fall Classic Final Game Attracts 51 Million Audience Members Across the US, Canadian and Japan Markets.

The thrilling extra-inning contest where the Dodgers overcome the Blue Jays by one run attracted a total over 50 million watchers across the US, Canadian, and Japan markets. Major League Baseball announced this is the highest-rated World Series finale since the 1991 showdown between the Minnesota Twins and Atlanta Braves.

Broadcast Viewership Breakdown

Last Saturday’s memorable game averaged 27.33M viewers on Fox Sports networks, its Spanish-language channel and Fox’s digital services. Per ratings data, it was the second most-watched broadcast of the previous week.

It also is the most-watched Fall Classic game since the 2017 edition final game involving the Los Angeles Dodgers and Houston Astros, which averaged 29.07 million. This marks a 16% increase over the last finale featuring the Nationals and Astros, which drew 23.19 million viewers.

In the Nielsen ratings, the sixth game ranked 4th, the fourth game was 7th, Game 5 was eighth, and the third game landed in 13th position.

Global Viewership Numbers

In Canada, the game averaged 11.6M watchers on the Sportsnet network and the French-language TVA Sports channel. This was the highest-rated English program in the country since the 2010 edition Winter Olympics.

In Japan, where the final contest started at 9 p.m. in the local time zone, it attracted 12 million viewers. This came after last Friday’s Game 6 – in which Fall Classic MVP Yoshinobu Yamamoto allowed a single run in six innings – recorded 13.1 million viewers, making it the highest-rated World Series game on a sole broadcaster in Japan.

Overall Averages and Patterns

The entire seven-match series averaged over 15.7 million audience members on the Fox network, a two percent rise from the previous year’s Dodgers versus Yankees matchup. This represents the initial instance after 2015 and 2016 that the Fall Classic has seen audience increases for two straight years.

Counting the Game 1 telecast on the Univision network, the complete American average was 16.1M. The overall World Series average in Japan was 9.7 million and 8.1 million in the Canadian market.

The complete playoffs on Fox and its sister channels drew over 8 million watchers, an 8% rise compared to the previous year and Fox’s strongest playoff ratings since the 2017 season.

Major League Baseball announced that the World Series was televised in over 200 countries and territories by 44 media partners in sixteen various languages.
