Dominant Sabalenka Wins Consecutive WTA Top Player Awards.
The top-ranked player Aryna Sabalenka has been selected the Women's Tennis Association player of the year for a second successive year.
The twenty-seven-year-old won four titles – the most on tour – which included successfully defending the US Open in September against Amanda Anisimova to secure her fourth career Grand Slam singles championship.
A Season of Consistency
Throughout the year, Sabalenka competed in a tour-best nine finals, with defeats coming to Madison Keys in the Australian Open final in January and Coco Gauff in the French Open final.
The Belarusian also claimed victory at the Brisbane International early in the season, the Miami Open during the spring, and the Madrid Open as the clay season progressed. She remained the whole season as the world number one, ending 2025 on top of the rankings for a second successive year.
This past summer, she achieved the status of being the first player to exceed 12,000 WTA ranking points since Serena Williams in 2015.
Historic Numbers
Sabalenka finished the season with a sixty-three to twelve win-loss record, and collected a record £11m in prize money.
She earned nearly 80% of the votes submitted by international tennis media.
On 28 December, she is poised to compete against 2022 Wimbledon finalist Nick Kyrgios in a Battle of the Sexes-style exhibition match with the aim of "raise women's tennis to a higher level".
Other WTA Award Winners
- Comeback Player of the Year: Switzerland's Belinda Bencic, 28, was voted after taking 13-month break after the birth of her first child and returning to the sport earlier this season.
- Newcomer of the Year: Canadian teenager Victoria Mboko was honored with the award after starting the season ranked outside the world's top 300 and climbing to the eighteenth spot.
- Partnership of the Year: Katerina Siniakova and Taylor Townsend earned the title after winning their second career Grand Slam title together.
- Most Improved Player of the Year: Amanda Anisimova received the accolade after making five championship matches.
Last week, Carlos Alcaraz won three honours in the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) Awards, which included the year-end number one award, while Jannik Sinner was voted fans' favourite for a third consecutive time.
