American Law Enforcement Report Arrests in Thwarted New Year's Eve Bomb Plan Near Southern California
Law enforcement officials declared on Monday that they had managed to foil a comprehensive plan to detonate bombs at several sites belonging to two American businesses on New Year's Eve in the LA region. The operation came after the detainment of people associated with an extremist faction promoting anti-corporate and anti-government beliefs.
Individuals Apprehended During Desert Dry Run
Four people were detained last Friday in the Mojave Desert situated east of Los Angeles while they were according to officials running through their proposed attack. Prosecutors presented from above surveillance images to the media, that captured the individuals transporting a big dark object to a surface. Authorities stressed that the arrests occurred before the group could construct a operational IED.
Details of the Suspects Disclosed
Based on the filed court documents, the four individuals named are a 30-year-old named Audrey Illeene Carroll; Zachary Aaron Page, 32; Gaffield, 24; and Tina Lai, 41. All four are reportedly from the greater Los Angeles region.
Alleged Motivation and Group Affiliations
Although prosecutors did not directly detail a motive, they said the group are adherents of a faction known as the Turtle Island Liberation Front. The group allegedly advocates for "the working class to rebel and combat against capitalism," based on the criminal complaint.
They face include conspiracy and having a explosive. Officials stated that further accusations are expected in the weeks ahead.
Details of the Supposed "The Midnight Sun Plan"
Authorities revealed that one of the accused had created a detailed scheme last month to attack five or more commercial sites across Southern California on New Year's Eve. The intended sites were likened to "similar to Amazon" logistical warehouses.
"The bomb plot was detailed," an official remarked. "It contained detailed directions to build IEDs … and listed several targets across the county of Orange and Los Angeles."
As per the investigation and legal filings, the plan entailed placing bags packed with complex explosive devices that were set to be set off all at once at midnight on New Year's Eve at several places. New Year's Eve was seen as an opportune time since the document indicated "fireworks will be going off at this time so detonations will be less likely to be heard."
The eight-page handwritten document, named "OPERATION MIDNIGHT SUN," noted that further locations could be incorporated. The sites were described as property and operations owned by two separate corporations connected with business involving interstate and foreign commerce.
Future Schemes and Proof Uncovered
Court documents also stated that two individuals in the group had planned future attacks focusing on ICE agents agents and cars with IEDs in 2026. One suspect allegedly commented that such strikes "would eliminate some and intimidate the rest of them."
These plans were allegedly talked over both at an face-to-face assembly in Los Angeles and through an private digital platform.
Images contained in the legal filings reveal a remote camp with what investigators described as IED-construction items strewn across portable tables.
Official documents notes that the group "all brought IED parts to the site, such as different sizes of plastic pipes, identified as potassium nitrate, charcoal briquettes, powdered charcoal, another chemical, and components to be used as igniters, among others."
The scheme also included steps on how to build the bombs and how to prevent leaving evidence that could be connected back to the group. The suspects had recently obtained components and other goods, including purchases from online retailers.
Apprehension and Follow-up
The FBI moved in last week when the individuals were running through the strike in the remote area near a California town. "They possessed every item they required to construct an functional IED at that place," an official stated.
During executed raids, authorities allegedly found flyers for the Turtle Island Liberation Front at one accused's residence that called for "Down with America", and "Eliminate ICE". At another accused's home, police found a copy of the comprehensive attack blueprint.
Those arrested were detained without incident. They were due to appear in court in Los Angeles on Monday afternoon.
