A Mountain of Anime Updates Arrived During the Festive Season
The Christmas holidays present a plethora of pursuits far superior than scanning the headlines: discovering surprises, getting stuffed on festive fare, and harnessing meditation skills to refrain from yelling at relatives. Hopefully you managed to do all these things and more. Nevertheless, the world of entertainment never sleeps, and this is especially true for the realm of anime. Many exciting announcements surfaced over the holidays, and should you overlooked a few, here is a summary of the juiciest bits.
The One-Punch Man Series Season 3 Will Continue (By 2027)
Perhaps the most shocking revelation, the notorious troubled production that was the third season of One-Punch Man failed to stop the series' continuation. The show will be back with a follow-up batch of episodes in 2027—such a distant date they easily could have called it season 4. Adding to the surprise, the studio J.C. Staff will still be leading the project. Thankfully this time, helmer Shinpei Nagai is attached to direct from the outset, which is seen as a positive development. Yet, the main art for the second cour is the same image the one used for season 3, just with characters Saitama and Garou looking opposite ways. This suggests that, nowadays, they are probably teasing the fans.
The Ruri Dragon Series Is Set to Be the First Shonen Jump Anime Produced By Kyoto Animation
Kyoto Animation has established a standing for being an top-tier animation studio, distinguishing itself not just for the exceptional quality of its productions but for the ethical practices of its employees—a sadly unusual standard in the industry. Unexpectedly, until now, it had not produced an anime adapted from a manga serialized in Shonen Jump, perhaps the best-known magazine in the business. Ruri Dragon will change that, and what a superb choice it is. The manga by Masaoki Shindo gained a huge following when it launched in 2022 after just a few chapters, but then went into a extended pause due to the creator's health issues. When it returned with a lighter schedule, the series demonstrated it hadn't lost the fans' affection and goodwill, and now fans are overjoyed about the impending KyoAni adaptation.
The Kingdom Series Its Sixth Season Has a Sequel Now in the Works
Kingdom is the top-selling, long-running Shueisha manga that is not One Piece. If you've haven't come across it before, it's because it only recently got an English release, but the anime has been running for some time, and season 6 was another outstanding entry. As it happens that was just the initial batch, because a "sequel" has been announced as currently being made, and it will probably air in 2026.
Science Saru Is Bringing A Witch in Mongolia To Anime
One more studio known for the artistic merit of its productions, Science Saru has brought us masterpieces of the caliber of Space Dandy, Devilman Crybaby, and, more recently, Dandadan. This time, the studio will be producing the adaptation of Tomato Soup's manga A Witch's Life in Mongol, inspired by the real historical figure of Fatima, an influential woman and thinker in the Mongol Empire in the 13th century. From the trailer, the anime named Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia will have a distinctly fresh and captivating visual style, which is somewhat reminiscent of Ranking of Kings. Scheduled to launch in July 2026, this one will definitely be on my list of anticipated shows.
Tougen Anki Is Set to Continue With a Second Season
Immediately following the conclusion of its twenty-fourth episode, it was confirmed that Tougen Anki will be receiving a follow-up. Inspired by the Japanese legend of Momotaro, Tougen Anki brings to life the manga by Yura Urushibara. The upcoming season of the anime will adapt the Nikko Kegon Falls Arc, but a firm air date has yet to be revealed.
